Latest News & Best Deals!
Hey look -- our Facebook wall:
02/04/2010 Shortly
after we sent out our latest Tahoe Newsletter, Mt. Rose
told us they were pushing out the Retro Party to February 20th. So save
your old-school gear until then!
12/27/2009 We're
back from the break with our very own video player, courtesy of Tahoe TV. Check it out to see the latest updates from
Tahoe!
12/17/2009 Big props to Jinux for alerting
us to this killer deal: Starting January 4, buy 10 gallons of gas at
Shell stations, and you can get a "SKI FREE" voucher valid for a
buy-one-get-one lift ticket at Northstar and Sierra. It's valid
Sun-Fri, non holiday, but we're talking *half off*. That is a great
deal -- reminds me of when I started this site about 10 years ago.
Wow.
12/3/2009 Oof.
Ok, sorry, must still be slow from Thanksgiving. The Ticket Prices page is finally updated (thanks Dodge and
Kirkwood for lagging). Here's the round-up of major changes:
Dodge Ridge and Alpine, +$5. Squaw +$4 regular, +$5 holidays.
Homewood +$3 holidays.
Donner Ski Ranch slashed Tue-Thu prices to $22, but bumped Fri-Mon up
to $42. (However students/military/police/fire get $22 tickets Mon and Fri.)
Everybody else stayed the same or only went up $1-2. At Donner Ski
Ranch 6-year olds now ski free (up from 5).
At the other end of the spectrum, it looks like resorts are
taking advantage of the "graying" of the slopes: Dodge Ridge,
Donner Ski Ranch and Squaw all raised their minimum ages for Senior
discounts. (I blame ACL surgery.) Dodge Ridge bumped from 62 to
65. Donner Ski Ranch - 62 to 70! Squaw now *charges* for seniors
over 76 (formerly free), but hey, when you hit 85 it's free.
11/23/2009 Tahoe -- winter playground for the rich?
It doesn't have to be (recommend you avoid those places mentioned
though if you want to save money)! (On the other hand, if anybody can
hook us up at Manzanita... *drool*. Scrimp on lift tickets,
equipment, lodging to occasionally splurge on dinner.)
11/11/2009 Certain ad campaigns want you to
think that there are only 7 resorts in Tahoe. This is wrong. Here's
the ones they forgot. Some of them are admittedly small, homey
places. But if you want to add some variety to your Tahoe visit/ski
season (and see some of the most breathtaking lake views ever), you
need to try these places: Diamond
Peak and Homewood
are the closest resorts to the lakeshore -- you'll feel like you
might ski or ride right into the water. Boreal is all about the
parks. Soda Springs
has a great kids-only area. Donner Ski Ranch and Tahoe Donner are
great places to learn. Better still -- these 7 resorts will save
you a TONS of money versus the "big resorts" and will add some
home-grown variety to your trip/season.
